Day-by-Day Itinerary
- Drive from Arusha/Moshi to Machame Gate (1,640m/5,380ft).
- Trek through lush rainforests to Machame Camp (2,835m/9,301ft).
- Hiking time: 5-6 hours.
- Ascend to Shira Plateau, with stunning views of Mount Meru.
- Arrive at Shira Camp (3,850m/12,631ft).
- Hiking time: 4-5 hours.
- Trek past Lava Tower (4,630m/15,190ft) for acclimatization.
- Descend to Barranco Camp (3,900m/12,795ft).
- Hiking time: 6-7 hours.
(For the 7-day trek, an extra acclimatization day is spent at Karanga Camp.)
- Climb the Great Barranco Wall, a thrilling yet non-technical ascent.
- Trek through scenic ridges to Karanga Camp (3,995m/13,106ft).
