The Lemosho Route is one of the most scenic and less crowded paths to Mount Kilimanjaro’s Uhuru Peak (5,895m/19,341ft). Starting from the western side of the mountain, this route traverses diverse ecosystems, from rainforests to alpine deserts. It offers excellent acclimatization, making it one of the best routes for high summit success rates. The climb can be completed in 6, 7, or 8 days, with the longer itinerary improving the chances of reaching the top.

Day-by-Day Itinerary
- Drive from Arusha/Moshi to Londorossi Gate (2,200m/7,218ft).
- Trek through lush rainforests to Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,650m/8,692ft).
- Hiking time: 3-4 hours.
- Hike through moorland terrain, with stunning views of Shira Plateau.
- Arrive at Shira 1 Camp (3,610m/11,843ft).
- Hiking time: 5-6 hours.
- Continue across Shira Plateau, with panoramic views of Kibo Peak.
- Reach Shira 2 Camp (3,850m/12,631ft).
- Hiking time: 3-4 hours.
(For the 6-day trek, climbers skip this day and head straight to Barranco Camp.)
- Ascend to Lava Tower (4,630m/15,190ft) for acclimatization.
- Descend to Barranco Camp (3,960m/12,992ft) through the beautiful alpine desert.
- Hiking time: 6-7 hours.
- Climb the Barranco Wall, an exciting but non-technical ascent.
- Reach Karanga Camp (4,035m/13,238ft) for better acclimatization.
- Hiking time: 4-5 hours.
(For the 6-day itinerary, this section is skipped, and trekkers proceed to Barafu Camp.)
- Trek towards Barafu Camp (4,673m/15,331ft), the summit base camp.
- Early dinner and rest before the midnight summit push.
- Hiking time: 4-5 hours.
- Midnight ascent via Stella Point (5,756m/18,885ft).
- Reach Uhuru Peak (5,895m/19,341ft) – the highest point in Africa!
- Descend to Mweka Camp (3,100m/10,170ft) for overnight rest.
- Hiking time: 10-14 hours (ascent & descent).
- Final descent through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate (1,640m/5,380ft).
- Receive your Kilimanjaro summit certificate and transfer back to Arusha/Moshi.
- Hiking time: 4-5 hours.
